Go out and steal music

Filed under: Music, New World Way of Thinking, Quotes, The Root of All Evil — Antony @ 9:58 pm

“The thing RIAA is scared of is that their billion dollar backbone can no longer shelter people from exploring music themselves. Their business plan had evolved into telling the world what they will want to listen to and buy, and now they’ll have to actually compete with talented artists again. As the people regain control of the market, music will be judged by it’s content again and will be subjected to it’s own Darwinism. It is a very interesting time for the music industry…and since my entire life is devoted to making music, bring it on. I hope that this situation with my new record proves to other labels and artists that giving people exactly what they want is the smartest way to conduct any business.” - Benn Jordan

Music, Copywrights and Money

Filed under: Music, Quotes, The Root of All Evil — Antony @ 9:53 pm

“So, my new album currently has 6381 downloads at the time of this interview on what.cd alone. Using that deceitful equation, my losses are over $100,000. If I wanted to, I could subtract those losses from my profit and completely get out of paying any income taxes. It makes sense from an evil, corporate, criminal-minded standpoint, right?” - Benn Jordan

Ottmar - New Music - Dummy Head

Filed under: Music — Antony @ 8:28 am

“In August my quartet recorded a binaural album with a dummy head. It’s entitled “Up Close: The Fritz Files”, since Fritz was the name given to the dummy head recording device by its owner. You can find more information about dummy head recording here.

The binaural dummy head recording method creates a wonderful quality of surround sound, but the listener has to use headphones. The effect is lost when listening on loudspeakers.

You can view a free video of us recording “Snakecharmer” here if you have quicktime installed and here if you don’t.
You can listen to the free audio-only podcast of the same performance here. If you don’t have podcast-receiving software you can try the Safari browser from Apple (for Mac and PC) as it is podcast-enabled.

On Tuesday, September 28th, we are releasing the whole album on our ListeningLounge.

I hope you will enjoy our binaural album as much as we do. It’s a very unusual recording method and quite rare at this point. But, since more people use headphones these days and since iPod-type devices are so common, we wanted to give it a try.” - ottmar liebert
